Parker and Brooks Earned OAC Player of the Week Selections

TIFFIN, Ohio - Freshman right side hitter Sarah Parker and junior running back Cartel Brooks were pegged as Ohio Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the first and second consecutive time this year.

Parker has emerged as a key young hitter in head coach Jason Miller's offense with 296 kills through 28 matches and 108 sets. She is averaging 2.74 kills per set and owns a season kill percentage of .302 as Heidelberg's number two hitter.

Over the week, Parker helped the Student Princes remain unbeaten in the OAC by guiding the Berg to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ohio Northern University on Tuesday and a decisive 3-0 win over Muskingum on Saturday evening.

Parker reached a season-high against the Polar Bears with 19 kills and finished with a kill percentage of .306. Against Muskingum, Parker only finished with nine kills but was accurate with a kill percentage of .391.

Parker currently sits behind senior outside hitter Amber Welfle in total kills and kills per set but leads the Berg in total blocks with 79 and attack percentage with .302.

Brooks led the Heidelberg ground attack against the Muskies and finished with 155 yards rushing on 19 carries. On the ground, Brooks had a long of 49 yards and averaged 8.2 yards per carry on his way to two touchdowns.

Out of the back field, Brooks collected two receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns making him he Berg's leading receiver against the Muskies. The OAC Player of the Week selection marks the fourth of Cartel's career.

With the help of Brooks' stellar performance on Saturday, the Student Princes remain unbeaten in 2013 and the OAC. They are set to battle the Mount Union Purple Raiders this coming Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. from Mayer Field

The Heidelberg volleyball team will first travel to the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University on Tuesday evening, October 29 before the Purple Raiders visit Seiberling Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. Action on Tuesday between JCU and the Heidelberg ladies is slated for 7:00 p.m.
