Phillips and Brooks record breaking performances earn them Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Senior guard Kathleen Phillips and junior running back Cartel Brooks received Player of the Week honors as 'Berg women's basketball move to 2-0 and the Heidelberg football team finished the regular season, 8-2 overall with a win at Baldwin Wallace.

Phillips, whose father passed away unexpectedly during the offseason, has dedicated the 2013-14 season to his memory. Kathleen finished with a game-high, record breaking 40-points in a 83-79 in her emotional first contest; a win over Pittsburgh-Greensburg on Friday. Her 40 points eclipses the single-game scoring record which has stood unchallenged for over 30 years.

Kathleen finished with a double-double -- 40 points and ten steals -- while going 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Phillips followed up her 40-point performance with 20 points on Saturday against the Hawks of Hilbert College. She added seven boards and three assists while going five of six from the line.

Phillips has collected 1,256 points thus far through her four-year career in the Tricolor and is currently shooting 51% from the floor and 90% from the free throw line in her senior campaign.

Brooks broke the single-game rushing record for all NCAA Divisions with 465-yards rushing in the Berg's regular season finale at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday. The junior running back had a career day of 465-yards on 38 carries and a long for 81 yards. Brooks averaged 12.2 yards per carry and added 16-yards on one reception to his total.

Brooks finished his junior campaign with 1,704 total yards on 207 attempts with 23 touchdowns for an average of 170.4 yards per game and averaged 8.2 yards per carry. In 2013, Cartel broke the Heidelberg record for rushing touchdowns in a single-game (5), rushing yards in a single-game (465), rushing touchdowns in a season (23), total touchdowns in a season (25), rushing yards in a season (1,704) and career rushing touchdowns (46).

Brooks also tied the record for total touchdowns in a game with five against Otterbein and helped the Student Prince backfield eclipse the single-game rushing total with 505 yards against the Yellow Jackets.

The Player of the Week accolades mark the second and sixth career selections for Phillips and Brooks respectively.
