AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Athletic Conference has tabbed two Heidelberg University senior sluggers as its Offensive Players of the Week on Tuesday. Softball's Kayla Zachrich and baseball's Derek Hug earned the honors.
Zachrich and Hug both earned the same honor after last year's spring trip.
Zachrich was one of a number of Heidelberg hitters deserving of the honor. In the first four games in Florida, Zachrich was 8-for-13 (.615) with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs. Each of her RBIs came with two outs. Zachrich added four runs and a walk as the HU Softball team got out to a 4-0 start entering Tuesday.
Hug opened the spring trip to Florida for the baseball team on a tear, hitting .615 in their first three games. The senior went 8-for-13, including four extra-base hits and six runs driven in. His triple on Monday against UW-Stout moved his career total to 14, which puts him in sole possession of third place in the Heidelberg record books, just two off the school record. Hug also drew four walks, putting his on base percentage at .706 for those games.
