OAC winter sports polls announced

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- The Ohio Athletic Conference winter sports polls were released throughout the week. The Heidelberg University wrestling team was picked to finish third in the conference. The men's basketball team was selected to finish sixth while women's basketball was voted seventh.

The wrestling team finished fourth in the OAC last season, posting a 2-3 record in conference duals. The team will look to returning national qualifiers Dillen Decker and Nino Majoy, along with a talented group of freshmen to lead them in 2016-17.

"There is a large group of outstanding returners in the OAC this year," said Patrizi, in his third season at the helm. "We look forward to the opportunity to compete for a conference title."

The wrestling team opens their season Nov. 12 at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The first home dual is Dec. 9 against Alma.

After their first winning season since 2009-2010, the men's basketball team was tabbed to finish sixth. Last season, the Student Princes finished 14-12 and tied for fifth in the OAC.

"Top to bottom, the OAC continues to be an incredibly tough conference," said Bucheit, starting his fourth season at Heidelberg. "It is a privilege to compete against some of the top teams in the country."

The men's basketball team opens their season on Nov. 22 at Albion College. Their first home game is scheduled for Nov. 30 against Trine University.

The women's basketball team finished 10-17 last season, finishing eighth in the conference. The team defeated Otterbein in the first round of the OAC Tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Baldwin Wallace.

"I think for us it's good to be middle-to-lower half because it makes our girls look forward to proving people wrong and keep our focus," said Harrigan, in her fourth year as head coach. "It will keep the girls working hard to be able to jump up to the top half of the conference."

The women's basketball team kicks off their season at Emmanuel College in Massachusetts. The team will play two games Nov. 19-20 at the EC Tip-Off Classic. The home slate starts on Nov. 22 against Bluffton.
