AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- 36 fall student-athletes have been named Academic All-OAC, as announced on Wednesday. To be named academic All-OAC, a student must be of sophomore class standing or higher, maintain varsity status, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.50.
The women's soccer team led the way with 10 selections. Seniors Darby Moloney and Melodie Harnett were selected. Juniors Abby Barno and Amanda Kilway, along with sophomores Amanda Sugrue, Bri Casement, Erica Campbell, Maddy Hines, Madison Crow, and McKenzie Perry were all honored. The team finished with its best season since 2000, with a 10-8-1 record.
Nine members of the football team earned the distinction. Tyler Hunter, Jermaine Burket, Jack Haley, and Trace Reynolds received the honor. They were joined by teammates Barry Middleton, Gabe Smythe, Hunter Rinard, Jimmy Jacobs, and Ryan Compean. HU ended the season 7-3 with a second place finish in the OAC.
Led by seniors Rachel Stroski and Rachel Raimondo, the volleyball team had six recipients. Morgan Strenk, Kaylee Frederickson, Mya Morris, and Taylor Arbogast were selected. The team fell in the semifinals of the OAC Tournament to eventual champion Otterbein.
The men's cross country team saw six runners receive the honor. Seniors Aaron Hellman, Dom Frey, and Justin Mourguet, along with Andrew Symonds, Eric Peterson, and Garrett Shearer were all named to the team.
Jessica Sucheck, Nicole Tennison, and Rachel House were the selections from the women's cross country team. Following last week's performance at the Regional meet, House has earned a spot to run at this week's National meet.
Lastly, the men's soccer team had two players named. Christian Kiesel and Anthony Raimondo were the two selections. After early season success, the team fell in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
