AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- 2017 All-American punter Austin Baker was called into action heavily this past Saturday for the Heidelberg University football team at the University of Mount Union.
Baker was summoned to punt on eight occasions, earning OAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the third time of his career after twice picking up the award as a junior.
Baker collected 390 total punt yards against the top-ranked Purple Raiders -- good for a 48.8 yards per punt average. Three of his punts were downed inside the 20-yard line and only one found its way into the end zone for a touchback. Baker's long on the day was a 63-yard boot, just six yards shy of his career long of 69 achieved in 2017, also against Mount Union.
On the season, Baker has punted 31 times this season, averaging 44.0 yards per punt, which leads NCAA Division III in yards per punt.
Baker and the Heidelberg football team will return to the gridiron on Saturday, October 27 for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff vs. Muskingum on Homecoming and Hall of Fame Day at Hoernemann Stadium.
