The Heidelberg University athletic department places the highest priority on the overall quality of the student-athlete's educational experience and on the successful completion of their academic programs. In doing so, we strive to operate in harmony with the academic atmosphere of the university.
Heidelberg athletics is an important part of the college's community of learning that promotes and nurtures intellectual, personal and professional development, leading to a life of purpose with distinction. Recognizing that students have needs and interests outside the classroom, the athletic program is committed to providing opportunities of participation that enhance the educational experience. The athletic experience should promote attitudes of integrity, sportsmanship, and respect for others.
The athletic department should be operated in a manner designed to protect the health and welfare of the student-athlete. The department should strive for equitable opportunities for males and females and should support ethnic and gender diversity for all constituents.
See our Student Princes champion the cause of right.
It's a line from the Heidelberg Victory March, penned by Catherine Morneweck, class of 1931. Written more than 80 years ago, the lyric illustrates the university's long-standing commitment to excellence.
Today, Heidelberg's coaches, staff and student-athletes remain committed to the university's mission statement:
Heidelberg University is a community of learning that promotes and nurtures intellectual, personal and professional development, leading to a life of purpose with distinction.
In line with the mission statement, our student-athletes have triumphed in competition, the classroom and the community. As the vision statement describes, the school looks to "prepare our students to be global citizens who communicate effectively, think critically and serve thoughtfully."
We invite you to read more about how our Student Princes continue to champion the cause of right, which will, in turn, lead to a life of purpose with distinction. Our Division III Week celebrations from years past highlight our student-athletes and their paths to success.
