Christian Verde named hitter of the week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – After blasting home runs in two consecutive games, the Ohio Athletic Conference named Heidelberg University baseball player Christian Verde as the Hitter of the Week on Monday. Verde, a senior, is the third Student Prince to earn a weekly award from the conference this season.

Verde hit .750 as No. 6 Heidelberg split a pair of non-conference games with Trine University and Ohio Wesleyan University. He drove in a total of eight runs, four in each game.

An outfielder, Verde hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning of the Tricolor's come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Trine. In the third inning, he doubled in a pair.

In the loss to OWU, Verde hit a three-run home run to left center in the third, then hit a game-tying double in the fifth.

Verde joins Derek Hug (Hitter of the Week, 3/17) and Derek Hendrixson (Pitcher of the Week, 3/23) on the OAC honor roll.

Heidelberg baseball is in action on Monday, making up a doubleheader at Mount Union that was originally scheduled for Friday. Weather permitting, the Berg travels to Cleveland for a make-up game with Case Western Reserve on Tuesday before returning home for an OAC twinbill with Capital.
