TIFFIN -- Cory Jacobs had three hits, including a mammoth home run as the Heidelberg University baseball team snapped a two-game skid with a 15-3 drubbing of Ohio Wesleyan University. The Student Princes hammered out 18 hits in the game which featured a combined 48 players.
On the day, Jacobs drove in four runs. His fifth-inning home run to straight-away center field ricocheted off the 'batter's eye' backdrop.
Heidelberg (17-16) scored two or more runs in every inning but the third and fourth.
In the first Jacobs and Matt Psychas gave HU a 2-0 lead with two RBI singles.
Jacobs doubled the Tricolor lead with a two-out two-run single to center in the second.
After Jacobs' blast to start the fifth, Phillip Frazier hit a ground-rule double to left center that drove in Parker Fronk.
Up 6-1 in the sixth, Heidelberg plated five. Evan Long had an RBI double before Psychas followed with an infield hit that drove in another. After a run came in on an error, Frazier drove in two with a triple to the gap in right center.
With both teams making wholesale lineup changes, Heidelberg added two in the seventh and in the eighth. Kyle Jenkins had a sacrifice fly and Joe Sefik hit a ground-rule double in the seventh. Jacob Davis had an RBI single in the eighth and Jenkins added an RBI fielder's choice.
HU starter Alex Simun (4-2) went six strong innings, allowing one run on three hits. Brady Ansara and Anthony Hajdu combined for two scoreless innings of relief before OWU (13-17) scored twice in the ninth.
For the Student Princes, their 18-hit effort was their best since pounding out 24 hits against Earlham on March 16.
Long, Fronk, Psychas and Frazier all had multi-hit efforts.
Heidelberg is scheduled to return to action this Saturday with a twinbill at Otterbein University (23-10, 9-5 OAC). Weather permitting, the first game will begin at 1 p.m.
