Baseball earns Academic Excellence Award

TIFFIN -- For the first time in school history, the Heidelberg University baseball team has been honored with the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award. The award is given to high school and college teams that post at least a 3.0 team GPA.

Over 200 high school and college programs received the honor. Heidelberg is the only OAC school and just one of three Division III institutions in Ohio to earn the distinction.

"An award like this is a testament to the guys we have on the team," said head coach Chad Fitzgerald. "With early morning practices and a schedule that changes because of weather, it would be easy for our team to lose focus on their academic responsibilities. I'm proud that our guys have done so well."

The Heidelberg baseball team concluded the 2017 season with a 22-17 record. The squad had six Academic All-OAC selections on its roster. All-conference second baseman Evan Long received CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors.
