GAME ONE: Heidelberg 2-4-0 Otterbein 1-7-1
It was a game that probably belonged in the OAC Tournament -- outstanding pitching, a timely hit and close calls. Trevor Adkins and Craig Prince went toe-to-toe -- locked in a dual shutout until the eighth inning.
With one out and one on, Joe Walton sent a bouncer to second On first glance, it was ruled that the Cardinals had turned an inning-ending 4-6 3 double play. After a brief conference Walton was ruled safe. Joey Rydzewski followed with a bunt single before Zach Cleaver walked to load the bases. Evan Long stepped up and delivered a two-run single to the opposite field, plating Walton and Rydzewski.
Otterbein scored once in the ninth off reliever Cameron Deemer, but stranded the tying run on first.
Adkins (2-0) dazzled -- going 7+ innings, allowing no runs on five hits. He fanned six and walked three. Deemer tallied his first save of the season, going two innings.
Cardinal starter Craig Prince (2-3) picked up the complete game loss. Prince scattered four hits and fanned 12.
GAME TWO: Otterbein 4-12-2 Heidelberg 3-8-0
Otterbein wasted no time getting on the board in the nightcap. Ben Beachy led off the first with a home run off of Anthony Hajdu.
In the third, Heidelberg took advantage of an Otterbein miscue to knot the game back up. Darrin Shirk singled and advanced to second on a failed pickoff. He scampered home on an RBI hit by Rydzewski.
The Cardinals rebounded for two runs on a pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom of the inning.
In the fifth, HU tied the game at three. Walton drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on a single by Cleaver. Long loaded the bases with a bunt single. Psychas delivered the tying run with a line-drive sac fly to left.
With the game tied at three, Otterbein took the lead in the seventh on Beachy's second home run of the day.
Hajdu worked three innings, allowing three runs on five hits. Ochoa (0-1) went 3.1 innings -- giving up just the home run to Beachy. Alex Sir Louis threw the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run.
Otterbein's Collin Hoffmann (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Stevie Yuran.
