CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- A lengthy postseason awards list grew even longer for Heidelberg University baseball player Matt Psychas on Thursday evening.
The senior outfielder earned his second All-American nod of the season at the opening ceremonies of the Division III College World Series, this time from the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings. For the ABCA, Psychas was named third-team All-American.
Psychas was also named fourth team All-American from D3Baseball.com earlier this week.
On the year, Psychas has compiled impressive stats across the board. At the plate, he hit .365 with 73 hits, 18 doubles, six triples, eight home runs, and 54 runs batter in. Furthermore, Psychas' .442 on-base percentage was aided by 19 drawn walks and 10 hit-by-pitches. His 32 extra-base-hits have contributed to an astounding .635 slugging percentage for the year.
In the national ranks, Psychas's 54 RBIs have him 17th, his 73 hits rank him 18th, his six triples have him 19th, and his 18 doubles sit him 24th,
Psychas's two All-American awards are added to his collection of first team All-OAC and All-Mideast Region first-team (D3Baseball.com & ABCA) already received this year.
Psychas will lead the Student Princes into their first game of the 2019 DIII World Series on Friday night. Heidelberg will take on Birmingham-Southern under the lights with first pitch scheduled for 7:45 p.m. (CST).
