LOOKING BACK
Coming off of a pair of losses, the 2013 Heidelberg University football team wanted to make a statement ending their regular season. Cartel Brooks made sure that statement was clearly delievered, as he ran all over the Baldwin Wallace defense en route to an NCAA all-divisions record 465 yards rushing in a 42-14 thrashing of the host Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin Wallace struck first in the game to take a 7-0 lead, but it would be all Berg from there on out as the Student Princes scored 42 unanswered points to take over the ball game. Heidelberg continued to feed the ball to Brooks, as he was unstoppable on the afternoon. The junior running back finished the game with 465 yards on 38 carries for an unheard-of 12.2 yards per carry and three touchdowns, including scores from 81, 41 and 13 yards out. Geoffrey Helms tacked on 37 rushing yards himself, as Heidelberg went over 500 yards on the ground as a team. Michael Mees, overshadowed by Brooks' big day, was 15-21 for 168 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

The Berg defense had a day where they bent, but did not break, allowing 446 yard of offense to the Yellow Jackets but only allowing 14 points on the day with one of those touchdowns coming with three seconds left in the fourth quarter when the outcome was not in question. Mitchell Kelly and Adam Cepik tied for the team-high with 10 tackles each. Ryan Malloy and Will Lance each had one sack, while Malloy led the defense with a team-high 2.5 tackles for loss as the Student Prince defense recorded 10 on the day.
