TIFFIN - Senior wide receiver Donteea Dye has been named to the D3football.com team of the week following his outstanding performance against Ohio Northern, setting multiple career highs. This marks the second time in Dye's Heidelberg career that he has received this recognition, previously earning it in 2013 for his explosive first-half against Wilmington.
The game started off quickly when quarterback Michael Mees connected with Dye for 61 yards, setting up the Student Princes for a field goal on their first drive. Later in the first quarter he picked up his first touchdown of the ball game when Mees found him for a 10 yard score.
With under four minutes to play in the second quarter, Dye broke off a 43 yard run on a reverse, setting up another 'Berg touchdown. The scoring in the half wasn't over yet for Heidelberg, however, as Mees found Dye one more time for a six-yard touchdown with just 24 seconds left in the first half.
Dye tacked on five receptions in the second half to cap off his day.
He set new career-highs in receptions, receiving yards and rushing yards in the 2014 Bendo Bowl. Dye finished the game with 12 receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns to go along with his one carry for 43 yards, leading the Student Princes to a 69-52 win.
The Heidelberg University football team will be back in action again this Saturday, October 4, when they take to the road to face Otterbein. That battle for the Rhine River Cup is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. in Westerville.
