WACO, Texas – Heidelberg University defensive lineman Austin Crow (Westerville / Big Walnut) has been named a second team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Crow is the third AFCA All-American selection in program history – and first on defense.
Crow, a junior, led the nation in tackles for loss per game, averaging 2.9 per contest. His 28.5 TFLs totaled 115 yards of loss for opponents. In all, Crow led the third-place Student Princes with 81 tackles and 10.5 sacks.
The AFCA honor is one of many for Crow this season. He received the Paul Hoernemann Award, given to the top defensive lineman in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Last week, he was named first team All-Region by D3football.com.
This year marks the first time in the 71-year history of the AFCA All-America Team that a first and second team were selected.
Crow joins receiver Michael Preston (2010) and running back Cartel Brooks (2014) as AFCA All-Americans.
