TIFFIN -- Five members of the Heidelberg University football team have been selected to the D3football.com All-North Region Team. Seniors Demetrius Magee, Austin Crow, Brock Riggs, and Jarett Wasson, along with junior Austin Baker all received the honor.
With four named to the first team, it is the most Heidelberg had selected to the first team in a single season. The five selections are the most since the 2014 season.
Crow, Magee, Riggs, and Baker all earned the first team nod.
Magee, another 2016 first team honoree, was selected for the second straight season. Leaving HU with the most receiving touchdowns in school history (27), he concluded his career with a remarkable senior campaign. Magee had 14 touchdown grabs this season and had over 1,000 receiving yards. Magee will participate in Sunday's National Bowl Game in Florida, designed to showcase the top college players from non-FBS schools.
Crow, a 2016 first team selection, has earned the honor once again. The two-time OAC Paul Hoernemann Award winner had another outstanding year with 55 total tackles. The senior finished with 21 TFLs for 83 yards, including a sack on the final snap at the Berg.
Riggs, a Tiffin native, was a key part of the offensive line for the Student Princes. More notably, he had an impressive touchdown and flip into the end zone in the final game against Capital. Riggs is a finalist for the Piesman Trophy, and will travel to New York City this weekend for the ceremony. The winner will be announced Dec. 8.
A junior transfer, Baker averaged 41.6 yards per punt this season. He pinned his opponents inside the 20-yard line 19 times over the course of the season.
Wasson, a two-time team captain, was named to the honorable mention. The Tipp City native had 43 tackles and four interceptions in his senior year.
The Heidelberg football team ended its 2017 campaign with a 7-3 record.
