2014-15 Men's Basketball Season Preview

TIFFIN - The 2014-15 Heidelberg University men's basketball team, under the direction of second-year head coach Andy Bucheit, will look to bounce back from a tough 2013-14 campaign. The 2014-15 squad will be led by a group of upperclassmen, returning three starters and seven lettermen from last year's team that went 7-18, including a 3-15 record in the OAC. Heidelberg was picked to finish 8th in the preseason OAC coaches poll.

The Student Princes will need to replace some scoring at the guard position, graduating Mike Petrie (11.5ppg) and Keith Mackie (12.2), who were both double-digit scorers, also being the top two on the team in assists.

The duo of Jackson Blue and Cole Williams will be counted on in the post for Heidelberg. Williams averaged nine points per game a year ago while Blue averaged eight, with both tying for the team lead with 5.2 rebounds per game.

Heidelberg was without Marcquice Taylor for the majority of last season, but he returns this season and will be looked to for contribution from the guard position. Junior Deonté Holder is coming off a terrific season in which he averaged 16.1 points per game, being named 2nd team All-OAC, but will enter the 2014-15 season injured, eyeing a midseason return.

The Student Princes will open their season on November 15th, hosting Trine University at 5:30 p.m. in Seiberling Gymnasium. The first OAC game for Heidelberg will be on December 3rd when they host John Carroll.
