Men's hoops falls to Ohio Northern

TIFFIN – The Heidelberg University men's basketball team was railroaded by Ohio Northern University on Wednesday evening, 84-66. The Polar Bears roared out to an early lead and never let up as both teams wrapped up the first half of their Ohio Athletic Conference schedule.

The loss dropped the Student Princes to 9-7, 4-5 in the OAC. ONU improved to 6-10, 3-6.

DeAvery Collins had a team-high 16 points. Myron Prewitt was the other Berg player in double-figures, with 10.

On the glass, Isaac Everette had a season-high seven rebounds.

Holding a nominal five-point lead midway through the first, ONU dialed up its intensity and took control with a 14-3 run. At the horn, Chris Moxley banked in an off-balance 3-pointer, cutting the deficit to 43-33.

A pair of free throws by Kiere Bennie 15 seconds into the second half brought Heidelberg to within eight. A Polar Bear layup off an offensive rebound on the other end pushed their lead back to double-figures, which would remain for the rest of the contest. The visitors led by as many as 24 en route to the win.

ONU's post duo of Aron Thress (19 points) and Ryan Burns (16 points) were troublesome all evening for the Tricolor.

Heidelberg will face a tough task as they look to regroup. HU visits No. 11 Marietta College (14-2, 8-1 OAC) on Saturday as part of a women's-men's doubleheader along the banks of the Ohio River. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m.
