WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Heidelberg University men's basketball team used a strong second half to pull away from Wilmington on Saturday for a 91-75 win on the road. After trailing by four at halftime, the Student Princes completely dominated the second half as they outscored the Quakers by 20 en route to the win.
The post duo of Jackson Blue and Myron Prewitt had a solid afternoon for the Student Princes, Prewitt led the Berg with 15 points while pulling down six boards while Blue scored 10 and recorded seven rebounds.
Heidelberg's hot shooting in the second half led them to the win. The Student Princes shot 53.1% from the field, including an even 50% from behind the 3-point line in the game.
HU completely controlled the boards in the game, recording 37 rebounds while the host Quakers managed just 24.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tight throughout, the Quakers held a 37-33 lead at halftime. Heidelberg held a 24-21 lead with 7:46 left in the half before the home team embarked on a 9-0 run, taking a 30-24 lead. Each squad shot over 44% in the half.
Over the first ten minutes of the second half, Heidelberg outscored the Quakers 25-15, taking a six point lead. The run was ignited by three straight 3-pointers to open the half -- one by Myron Prewitt and two by Kiere Bennie.
After Wilmington cut the Berg lead to just a pair, the Student Princes quickly shot back out to a seven-point lead after a pair of free throws by Marcquice Taylor.
That lead held steady for a while before Heidelberg was able to open the game up to a 13 point advanatage with just under four minutes of action remaining.
From that point on, HU was able to control things as they cruised to the end for a 91-75 victory on the road.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Heidelberg, who led the conference in team free throw percentage entering the game, had another solid afternoon at the line in their win. The Student Princes shot 88.2% (15-for-17) as they pulled away late for the win.
The 53.1% shooting percentage for the Berg marked a season high. The only other game HU eclipsed the 50% mark - the 90-67 home win over Wilmington on 12/16.
The Student Princes return home Wednesday as they play host to Baldwin Wallace. Tipoff with the Yellow Jackets is slated for 7:30 p.m.
