TIFFIN -- For the second straight game, 40 minutes weren't enough for the Heidelberg University men's basketball team. The Student Princes forced overtime with an oppressive full-court press in the final minute of regulation, but fell 74-71 to Albion College on Tuesday.
The Berg slipped to 1-2 while the Britons improved to 1-2.
The Student Princes trailed throughout the entire game -- by as many as 12 in the first half -- before their late surge. Down six with 42 seconds left, Moxley was fouled on a drive to the basket and sank both free throw. After a timeout, the HU press caused an Albion turnover. At the line again, Moxley deposited two more freebies. With under 0:30 left, Albion committed another costly turnover and AC's Robert Ryan fouled James Hanley with 19 ticks remaining. The senior confidently buried both shots at the line.
Albion had a look at a potential game-winner, but Corey Wheeler's running floater drew iron.
Up by three with less than a minute remaining in overtime, HU needed a stop. Albion's Caden Ebeling nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game at 71 with 34 seconds left.
The Britons forced a Heidelberg turnover at the other end. After a Student Prince foul, Albion sank both free throws with 10 seconds left for the Berg to tie or win. A last second layup attempt by HU rattled out, which sealed the Albion victory.
After some time off to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday, Heidelberg travels to Trine University on Nov. 29 to battle the Thunder. Game time in Indiana is scheduled for 8 p.m.
