TIFFIN -- The first round of the Heidelberg Spring Invitational at Mohawk Golf & Country Club is complete. The men's golf team carded a 316 and the women's team shot a 375 on a picturesque afternoon. Jack Eifel and Chance Campbell paced the men's team with a +6 78 while Kerianne Murphy led with way for the women with a +18 90.
Eifel and Campbell are tied for 10th individually. Kurtis Lazur and Andrew Sikorski rounded out the scorers for Heidelberg with 80s. Golfing as an individual, Mark Anderson is tied for 16th with a 79. Bryce Creamer (84), James Smith (90) and Jonathan Sallee (92) also competed.
Baldwin Wallace's Jason Garnet shot an even-par 72 to lead the men's field.
A few teams dropped out of the women's field because of conference obligations for events that were postponed because of weather earlier this spring. The truncated field didn't seem to bother Murphy, whose 90 is second overall, behind Ohio Northern's Ariana Tomasula (87).
Christy Anzur is a stroke behind Murphy with a 91 throught 18 holes. Taylor Lewis (94) and Hope Bacho (100) rounded out the scoring for HU. Tiffany Bates (116) also competed in the opening round.
Play concludes with 18 holes at Mohawk on Sunday. The shotgun start begins at 10 a.m.
