Three players score in MLAX finale

TIFFIN -- In its last game of its first season, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Mount Union, 14-3, Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders scored twice in the first quarter and added one in the second before the Berg got on the board. With 8:00 remaining until the half, junior Matt Wernerspach scored his 30th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Mount Union added two more goals before the break, taking a 5-1 lead into halftime.

Less than three minutes into the second half, freshman Patrick McCarthy tallied his 10th goal of the year, bringing the score to 6-2.

MTU scored five times before the Student Princes scored their final goal of the afternoon. Wernerspach connected with Chris Storrs for the freshman's second goal of the season.

Max Rennillo made 14 saves for Heidelberg. Nick Selfridge, Barry Middleton, and Ryan Sinnema, each picked up four ground balls.

Slefridge and Wernerspach paced the HU offense this season. Selfridge led the team with 31 goals while Wernerspach netted 30.

Rennillo made 145 saves in goal for the Student Princes in 11 games this year.

Defensively, Sinnema picked up 87 ground balls while Storrs picked up 82. At the conclusion of this afternoon's game, Sinnema leads the OAC in caused turnovers with 43.

With the loss, HU ends the season with a 3-13, 0-8 OAC record. MTU improves to 7-7, 2-5 in conference.
