MLAX: Trine thunders past Berg

TIFFIN -- A fourth quarter collapse hindered the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team in a 14-5 loss to Trine University. The Berg has now dropped two straight, falling to 4-2 on the year. Trine improves to 3-2 with the win.

Patrick McCarthy and Nick Selfridge each scored twice for the Student Princes. Freshman Liam Weaver added two assists in the losing effort.

McCarthy got the Berg on the board first with his 15th goal of the season four minutes into the contest. The Thunder responded with three goals before senior captain Matt Wernerspach netted his 20th goal. HU trailed after the first, 3-2.

Trine used a 4-goal second half to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Selfridge scored the lone goal for the Student Princes in the second period.

Hunter Edwards connected with Selfridge to open the third and cut the deficit to three. A Tyler Klima goal pushed the Trine lead back to four heading into the final period.

The Thunder scored six goals in the fourth quarter to control the game and seal the win.

Freshman goalie Alex Bruder made 13 saves for the Berg. Ty Garrett went 7 of 13 on faceoffs.

Trine controlled the offense, outshooting the Berg 50-24.

Heidelberg is back in action on Wednesday at Adrian College. First face off is slated for 7 p.m.
