ADRIAN, Mich. -- Boosted by a five goal performance from sophomore Brock Hodson, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team snapped its losing streak with a 14-4 win over Adrian College.
The Student Princes improve to 5-2 on the season, while Adrian falls to 0-5.
Heidelberg held a 2-0 lead after the first period, thanks to goals from Hodson and Nick Selfridge. The Berg scored four straight to open up the second, building its lead to 6-0. Freshman Liam Weaver continued his impressive season netting two of his three goals in the period.
Hodson struck two more times in the second, along with a goal from Matt Wernerspach, HU's leading scorer, as the Berg took a 7-1 lead into the break.
Out of the half, Hodson, Wernerspach, and Selfridge all scored in the third. The fourth goal the Student Princes tallied in the period came from defenseman Chris Storrs.
Three goals in the final period sealed the win for the visitors, as Weaver played a part in all three, scoring once and assisting on the other two. Weaver finished the evening with three goals and four assists.
With three goals and three assists, Wernerspach added to his team-leading point total. The senior now has 32 on the year.
Freshman goalie Alex Bruder was solid between the pipes, making 11 saves in the win.
Heidelberg was efficient on clear attempts, going 21-29. The Berg also capitalized on man-up opportunities, going 3 for 4.
Jacob White and Christian Hieronymous paced a strong defensive line, causing two turnovers each.
The Berg opens up Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday as it hosts Otterbein. A 1 p.m. faceoff is scheduled at Hoernemann Stadium.
