TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team jumped out to a first period lead, but could not hang on as they dropped the season opening match to Westminster College by a final score of 13-8.

Early in the season, the loss sets Heidelberg back to 0-1, while the Titans improve to 1-0.

In the first period, Brock Hodson got the scoring early with a unassisted goal. Liam Weaver continued the pressure with a long-range snipe from the far left wing to put the Student Princes up 2-0 by the first period break.

Westminster responded with 5 unanswered goals into the third period. Another Hodson tally looked to set Heidelberg on their way, but the visitors responded with four straight goals to extend the lead to 9-3.

Once again, Liam Weaver snuck one in to give the Berg life. Dante Serra continued his great night for the Titans and answered Weaver's goal with one of his own. Three straight Heidelberg markers with over 14 minutes remaining gave the Berg what looked like a chance at a comeback.

Unfortunately a man-up goal by the Titans put an end to that ambition. Brock Hodson finished his hat-trick with six minutes left on a feed from Hunter Edwards, but Joe Rosa's sixth goal of the game iced the scoring for the Titans.

Starting in goal in his first career game, Eli Allen tallied eight saves. Jaydon Septer had a decent night in the faceoff circle with a 16-for-25 success rate. Edwards had a game high 10 ground balls.

The Student Princes will remain idle until February 23, when they will travel to Chatham for a 5:30 face off time.
