TIFFIN -- On a pleasant evening, the Heidelberg University men's lacrosse team fell at home to Alma College, 16-5. The Student Princes, led by a two-goal effort by Liam Weaver, dropped to 2-3 on the season. The Scots, who outshot Heidelberg 47-32, improved to 4-4.
In a fairly stale affair, Alma gained an early edge scoring in just the fourth minute and Timothy Gearig scored. It would take another eight minutes for Alma to add to their lead as Gearig netted his second of the game.
Alma closed the first period scoring on an unassisted tally by Connor Gilbert who scooped up the faceoff and took himself to net the strike.
The second period proved to be a carbon copy of the first as Alma scored the first three goals before Heidelberg would get one back. Alex Bruder scored a diving goal after receiving a pass from Patrick McCarthy. Alma then capped the scoring with the final tally of the quarter. The Scots carried a 8-2 lead to the break.
After halftime, Liam Weaver tallied the first goal of the third quarter. Alma answered with three goals -- including two man-up tallies.
The Student Princes answered with an man-up goal by Weaver.
The Scots notched two more goals before the end of the third, taking a 13-4 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Teams traded goals early in the fourth, with The Berg's marker coming from the stick of Brock Hodson on a feed from Bruder.
Alma closed the game with the final two goals.
In the crease for Heidelberg, Eli Allen registered seven saves.
Alma was led by a five-goal night for Timothy Gearig. Scots goalkeeper Cameron Stelljes finished with 14 saves.
