TIFFIN – Chris Koczak has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer player of the week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. The senior had a solid opening week for the Berg and played a vital role in the team's win over Adrian and tie against Wittenberg, scoring three goals while tallying one assist.
In the season-opening match against the Bulldogs, Koczak played a part in each of the team's three goals as the Student Princes cruised to a 3-0 win. In the 63rd minute, the senior scored the first goal of the season when he won a loose ball in the penalty area and knocked the ball in off the post. In the 74th minute he tacked on his second goal of the match off a cross from Mitchell Papst. Late in the match, Koczak facilitated one more goal as he recorded an assist on Papst's goal in the 89th minute.
Against Wittenberg on Friday, the Berg trailed 1-0 heading late into the match, but a foul in the box gave the Student Princes the opportunity they needed. Koczak drilled home the penalty kick and helped send the game to overtime, where Heidelberg would earn the draw.
Heidelberg currently holds a 1-1-1 record and will be back in action on Wednesday when they host crosstown Tiffin University for a non-conference match. That contest is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 p.m. at Hoernemann Stadium.
