DANVILLE, Ky. -- After rallying from a two-goal first half deficit, the Heidelberg University men's soccer team conceded a late goal, falling to Centre, 3-2, on Friday night. Kyle Diaz and Alexis Mendoza were the goal scorers for the Student Princes.
With the loss, Heidelberg falls to 0-3 on the season. The Colonels moved to a perfect 3-0.
Centre scored two goals in a 10-minute span in the middle of the first half. Heidelberg trailed at halftime despite holding an 8-5 edge in shots.
Diaz scored in the 49th minute off a pass from Porus Shroff. For Diaz, it was his second goal of the year.
Mendoza found the equalizer in the 73rd minute, finishing a feed from Joseph Tallarico.
Centre's Phil Shehan scored the game-winner with a strike from outside the box in the 88th minute.
The Student Princes held a 16-14 edge in shots -- four of which came from Diaz.
Heidelberg's Jake Kress (0-3) made two saves in the loss.
Heidelberg remains in Kentucky to face Spalding on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
