TIFFIN -- The No. 25 Heidelberg University men's soccer team closed out its non-conference slate with a 1-0 win over Manchester University. HU improves to a perfect 7-0 this season while the Spartans slip to 4-5.
Manchester keeper Brady Forman kept the score knotted at zero with a number of spectacular saves in the first half. Robles broke the scoreless tie in the 51st minute with a shot into the lower left corner.
Robles rifled a shot, which was blocked by a Manchester defender. The rebound came right back to the foot of Robles, who capitalized with a strike into the lower 90. It was the freshman's first of his collegiate career.
Heidelberg had a chance to ice the game late with a penalty kick, but Manchester's keeper made a diving save to his right to keep the game 1-0.
Junior keeper Kress logged two saves in the match. He has now recorded a clean sheet in six of seven matches this year.
"We knew it was going to be a tough match against a well-coached and great defensive team," said head coach Pat Svihlik. "Anything we were going to get we knew we'd have to earn."
Svihlik on the play of his team: "I liked our discipline from all of our blocks … As the match went on we only got stronger."
The Student Princes begin OAC play on Saturday at Muskingum University (2-5-1). Kickoff in New Concord is scheduled for 4 p.m.
