Men's soccer suffers tough road loss

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team struggled on the road, falling 3-1 at Marietta College. The squad struggled to control the tempo against a well-organized Marietta team.

The home team struck twice within a five minute span for a quick 2-0 lead. Both goals came off the foot of MC's Tom Sloan.

In the 26th minute, Alexis Mendoza cut the Marietta lead in half with his second goal of the season. The senior drilled a shot into the upper right corner, allowing the Berg to trail by one at the break.

A costly Heidelberg turnover in their defensive end led to the third Marietta goal. Cole Pappas intercepted a ball to be cleared and found Andy Rofles for the score.

Goalkeeper Jake Kress made six saves in the losing effort. MC outshot the Student Princes, 15-9.

The Student Princes drop to 10-3-1, 3-3-1 in OAC play. Marietta improves to 10-4-2, 4-2-1 in the conference.
