MSOC: Berg drops final contest of North Country Classic

POTSDAM, New York -- Upstate New York proved to be unfriendly to Heidelberg University at the North Country Classic.

The Student Princes dropped their second match of the season away to Clarkson University to fall to 0-2 on the season. Meanwhile, Clarkson improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Jake Kress once again started in goal for The Berg, collecting five saves on the afternoon.

Sophomore Bryce Zeleznik lead the attack racking up three shots on goal, while Chase Paulson contributed two shots on frame during the contest.

Clarkson got the game off to a quick start, taking three shots in the first six minutes of the match. HU was able to fend off the early attacks, thanks in part to the play of Kress in goal and Jerrod Lyon and Jarod Chavez on the backline.

The Golden Knights were able to break the deadlock in the 30th minute when Aidan Subra found the back of the net on a feed from Mack Walton. The Student Princes responded with a solid effort as freshman Sebastian Salazar tested the Clarkson goalkeeper with a well taken shot on goal in the 33rd minute.

CU would double their lead in the 72nd minute when Walton finished off a pass from Henry Gomez Jr.

Any attempt at a comeback was cut short, when HU scored an own goal, bringing the score to 3-0 with under ten minutes to play.

Heidelberg will be back in action on Friday, September 7th at 4pm at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex as they welcome Mount Saint Joseph University to Tiffin.
