GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team bounced back from their recent struggles with a 3-0 win away to Thiel College.
Heidelberg improved their record to 2-4 on the season, while Thiel dropped to 4-5 with the loss.
The Student Princes held a 19-8 advantage on shots, including a 10-4 advantage with shots on goal. Berg also collected nine corner kicks, compared to the Tomcats' zero.
Christian Alvarado got the Berg on the board in the 11th minute when he buried the rebound on his own penalty kick attempt.
After controlling much of the first half, Heidelberg doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime. Alvarado found the head of Chase Paulson who knocked the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
Midway through the second stanza, Simon Joseph struck a nice shot on goal that was saved by the Tomcat goalkeeper, Christian Conrad. Conrad spilled the rebound, allowing Cory Gilbert to smack home the rebound.
Jake Kress started in goal, collecting four saves en route to his second shutout of the season.
The Student Princes will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting Oberlin College at Hoernemann Stadium for a 7 p.m. match.
