TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team lost a nail-biter at home to Otterbein University on saturday afternoon, 1-0.

With the loss the Student Princes fall to 5-6-1 (2-2-1), and Otterbein improves to 6-5 (3-2).

During a fairly even first half, Otterbein found the best opportunity to break the deadlock in the 17th minute. Erick Juarez-Manning got his head on the end of a corner kick and looked to have Jake Kress beat. Kress made an outstanding dive to his right and slapped the ball away to keep the score knotted at zeros.

Juarez-Manning did get his revenge in the 44th minute as he nodded an Eric Stuckey cross back across goal and into the side netting to put the Cardinals up 1-0 just before the break.

Just after the halftime interval, Porus Shroff struck a free kick from the left corner of the box destined for the back corner. Cardinal goalkeeper, Andrew McIlvoy made a great save over his right shoulder to tip the shot over the bar, keeping the score at 1-0.

Joseph Tallarico, filling in at center back for Heidelberg came up big, recovering to knock an Otterbein shot off the line in the 73rd minute after Kress was beat.

The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats throughout the remainder of the second half as Heidelberg proceeded to outshoot Otterbein 9-5, but the Berg could not find the breakthrough. Otterbein emerged with the 1-0 win.

The Student Princes return to the pitch on Wednesday night on the road at Ohio Northern University.
