TIFFIN -- On a day to honor six seniors -- Christian Alvarado, Cameron Dykes, Jake Kress, Jerrod Lyon, Porus Shroff, and Joseph Tallarico -- the Heidelberg University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw vs. the University of Mount Union at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex.
With the tie, Heidelberg bumps up to 5-7-2 (2-3-2 OAC) while Mount is now 10-3-1 (3-3-1 OAC).
Jake Kress earned his 17th career shutout, picking up five saves on the afternoon. His biggest save came in the second period of overtime as Scott Welker broke the backline and headed a bouncing ball on frame. Kress, who was already charging the bouncing ball, made a nice adjustment to his right hand side to corral the attempt.
Joseph Tallarico had Heidelberg's best scoring chance, rifling a drive shot from 25 yards out, which forced Mount Union goalkeeper Zach Hlas into a fine save to his right.
The match proved to be a physical affair, with the referee whistling 38 total fouls -- 24 for Mount Union, 14 for Heidelberg -- and issuing five yellow cards.
The senior class -- Alvarado, Dykes, Kress, Lyon, Shroff, and Tallarico -- will play their final match at Hidden Valley Soccer Complex on Wednesday, October 24 at 4 p.m. vs. John Carroll University.
