MSOC: Berg drops final home match

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University men's soccer team dropped their final home match of the 2018 season at the hands of John Carroll University by a final tally of 1-0.

Heidelberg fell to 5-8-2 on the season and 2-4-2 in the OAC. Meanwhile, John Carroll improved to 11-4-1, 7-1.

The decisive moment in the game came in the 18th minute as JCU earned a corner kick. Brian Lutz trotted over to take the kick and served a ball to Eric Rozsits who nodded the ball into the back of the net for the goal.

Jake Kress earned five saves on the afternoon, including a huge stop on a John Carroll counter attack in the 57th minute. Justin Lafountain was released beyond the the Heidelberg defense and Kress made a great kick save to keep the score at 1-0.

The long throw seemed to be testing the John Carroll goalkeeper all afternoon. The Student Princes struggled to capitalize unfortunately. Antonio Demonte twice found the crossbar on two separate scrambles in the box after the ball was spilled.

The game turned interesting over the final 10 minutes with five fouls, two yellow cards and one red card being issued.

Heidelberg will close out the regular season with a match on the road at Muskingum University on Saturday, October 27. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in New Concord.
