TIFFIN -- Last Friday, two Heidelberg University soccer players were honored with additional postseason recognition for their efforts on the field and in the classroom during 2018. This time, accolades were sent out by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association (OCSA).
For the women, senior defender, Maddy Hines was selected as a second-team Academic All-Ohio student-athlete. Hines, a native of Woodville, Ohio, adds the award to her collection after earning Honorable Mention All-OAC and Academic All-OAC already.
Hines started 18 games as a center back for the Student Princes this past season, while scoring three goals.
On the men's team, senior goalkeeper, Jake Kress was selected as a second-team Academic All-Ohio student-athlete. Kress was also tabbed as a third-team All-Ohio selection for his work on the field. The Westerville, Ohio native was also a second team All-OAC honoree this past fall.
Kress started all 16 games for the Berg while compiling 77 saves, in addition to his 1.42 GAA and four shutouts.
To be eligible for Academic All-Ohio selection, student-athletes must be a junior or senior in good academic standing at the institution, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and be a starter and/or significant contributor to the team's success.
