Men's Tennis drops 8-1 match at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Heidelberg University men's tennis team returned to action on Monday after more than a week off due to weather conditions, battling Defiance College on the road. The Student Princes came up short, however, falling 8-1 to the host Yellow Jackets.

In doubles play, the duo of Ben Moore and Tyler Flickinger put up a fight, but were unable to battle all the way back in the end, falling 8-3 to the pair of Mike Ross and Justin Walker for Defiance.

At first singles, Moore came through with a big win for the Berg, starting it off with a close first set. Moore had to grind out a 7-6 win in the opening set, taking it with a 7-3 tiebreaker. Carrying that momentum to the second set, he was dominant in defeating Ross 6-0 to take the match.

That would be the lone win for the Student Princes in singles play, however, as Flickinger at second singles and Paul Claymier at third singles were the closes in their matches, each winning four games in their two-set losses.

The Heidelberg men's tennis team will be back in action this Friday for an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Mount Union. That road contest is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start in Alliance.
