WESTERVILLE – Facing Otterbein for the second time in a week, the Heidelberg University men's tennis team's season came to a close on Tuesday in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament. The Student Princes were unable to keep up with the Cardinals, who tied for the regular-season crown and entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed. Otterbein ended the Berg's season by handing them a 5-0 defeat.
Doubles play was easily swept by the host Cardinals, as Heidelberg managed to take just two games total in the three matches. Otterbein swept the first doubles match 8-0, while Jamie Cole and Kyle Simpson at second doubles, as well as Kyle Boone and Andres Isea at third doubles lost 8-1.
Singles action was stopped once the match was clinched for Otterbein. Simpson fell 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles while Cole dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match at third singles. The other four matches were halted with Otterbein having won the first set 6-0 in each, with the Berg trailing in the second set of each match as well.
Heidelberg concluded their season with a 2-14 overall record, including a regular-season OAC mark of 2-6. Ben Moore led the team on the season with five wins, all coming at first singles, while the doubles team of Paul Claymier and Cole paced the Student Princes with three wins at second doubles on the year.
