BEXLEY, Ohio – The Heidelberg University men's tennis team fell on the road to Capital on Monday 9-0. The Student Princes battled for a couple of close singles matches, but they were unable to overcome the Crusaders on their home court.
Heidelberg slipped to 5-9 (2-5 OAC) with the loss while Capital improved to 9-12 (4-3 OAC).
After HU struggled in doubles play, allowing Capital to get out to the 3-0 lead, the Student Princes put together a couple of close calls in singles action.
At third singles, Tyler Flickinger was in a battle with C.J. Martin, but Flicking was unable to get a break late, falling 6-4, 6-4.
Kyle Simpson won the first set of his match 6-4, but then went cold and dropped the second set 6-0. In the tiebreaking third set, Simpson was locked in a tight one, but ended up falling 10-8 to end the match.
Heidelberg returns home on Wednesday for a non-conference match with Defiance that is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. in Tiffin.
