TEN: Student Princes go 1-1 this weekend

TIFFIN -- The Heidelberg University tennis teams were in action this weekend for a Friday evening for a non-conference affair before facing off against OAC foe Otterbein University on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, against Grace Christian University, both squads emerged victorious by a final score of 8-1. On Saturday, both squads were upended 9-0.

With the results, the women picked up their second win of the spring season and stand at 2-4, while the men earned their first victory of the season on Friday and stand at 1-4 on the season.

Against Grace Christian, the men picked up their first win of the season taking two doubles matches before sweeping all six singles matches. Both first singles and fifth singles proved to be the toughest tests for the Student Princes. At first, Kyle Alexander battled against Lake Serba 6-4, 7-6. In fifth, Diego Flores also needed a set tiebreaker to earn the win over Hank Schemmel, 6-3, 7-6.

On the women's side vs. Grace, second and fourth singles were forced to dramatic super tiebreakers. At second, Jillian Goulet and Ashleigh Welty traded 6-1 sets. In the third, Goulet emerged victorious by a final score of 11-9. Goulet's match was a big comeback victory to end the day for the Student Princes. In fourth, Emmy Flottman-Mullen swapped 6-2 sets and Flottman-Mullen emerged with a 10-4 victory.

Against Otterbein, the men's first doubles pairing of Porus Shroff and Tate Schoen put in a great fight before dropping the match 8-2. Shroff continued his solid play in singles but the results failed to show, as he dropped the match 6-1, 6-0.

The women did not fare well against the Cardinals. Esmeralda Salazar and Flottman-Mullen grabbed the only game of the day for HU at first doubles.

The teams return to action on Wednesday. The women's side hosts Capital while the men visit Muskingum.
