Briana Hess announces resignation

TIFFIN – Heidelberg University Director of Athletics Matt Palm announced on Wednesday that he has accepted the resignation of head track and field and cross country coach Briana Hess, effective Dec. 13.

During her four years with the university, Hess guided student athletes to 13 All-American performances, including two national titles.

"I want to thank Coach Hess for her dedication to Heidelberg University and our student-athletes," said Palm. "Bri has been a tremendous colleague. I wish her continued success in her future endeavors."

Hess, a standout athlete at the University of Toledo and former American record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, chose to step down for personal reasons.

"I am so proud to have been a part of Heidelberg University track and cross country," said Hess. "It is great to have had this experience and meet some great athletes and coaches within the program. I will always be a 'Berg supporter and look forward to watching the life journey of the student-athletes continue to unfold."

During the search for Hess' successor, the assistant coaches – including Heidelberg All-Americans Marian Bevington and Joe Yoder, along with 'Berg Athletic Hall of Fame member Ron Martin – will manage the operations of the program.
