Men and women fifth after day one of OAC Indoor Championships

BEXLEY – After the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships, the Heidelberg University men's and women's track and field teams are fifth. Five of the 19 events have been completed at the conference meet, held at the Capital Center at Capital University.

WOMEN'S WEIGHT THROW: Madison Haasz set a personal record with a throw of 56' 10.75". The toss, which temporarily set an OAC Championship record , earned Haasz second place. On her final throw, Baldwin Wallace's Kim Gallavan re-set the OAC Championships record and won the meet with a mark of 58' 1".

MEN'S LONG JUMP: After narrowly advancing to the finals, Jerrod Lyon had a season-best mark jump of 21' 5.05". The leap pushed him from ninth after qualifying into a sixth place finish.

MEN'S WEIGHT THROW: Gage Falcone, with a mark of 58' 4.75", finished third.

MEN'S 3000m: Dylan Dombi finished strong, winning the 3000m run. Dombi's time of 8:44.46 – a personal record -- was three seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

WOMEN'S 3000m: Sitting in fourth for much of the 15-lap race, Dani Blum muscled her way into second near the end. With a time of 10:34.97, Blum earned eight points for Heidelberg.

MEN'S DISTANCE MEDLEY: The quartet of Cameron WeaksDevaun ChurchyaJacob Berryman and Isaac Kuntz took sixth in the final men's event of the day.

WOMEN'S DISTANCE MEDLEY: Allie DresserCatarina OrrBaylee Garrett and Shawnda Henault capped off Friday by also finishing sixth.

QUALIFYING FOR SATURDAY'S EVENTS:

Baylee Garrett – 2nd in the women's 500m

Nichole Johnson – 7th in the women's 500m

De Churchya – 5th in the men's 400m

Jerrod Lyon – 6th in the men's 400m

Taylor Dillon – 3rd in the women's 400m

Jon Suter – 9th in the men's 60m hurdles

Catarina Orr – 3rd in the women's 60m hurdles

Bethany Beaver – 3rd in the women's 60m dash

Taylor Dillon – 3rd in the women's 200m dash

Bethany Beaver – tied for 9th in the women's 200m dash

UP NEXT: The remainder of the OAC Indoor Championships start at 10 a.m. on Saturday. 14 events will be determined for the men and women.
