Orr, Falcone earn OAC Titles on Saturday

ALLIANCE – The Heidelberg University track and field teams wrapped up the OAC Championships on Saturday, as the men finished in fifth place while the women came in sixth. Catarina Orr (400 meter hurdles) and Gage Falcone (hammer throw) each won OAC titles in their respective events, with Falcone earning his second title of the weekend.

For his combined efforts in the hammer, discus, and shot put, Falcone was named the Sparky Adams Most Outstanding Field Athlete, given to the top male field athlete at the OAC Championships. He is just the third Student Prince to earn that award in school history, with the previous winners being Darren Nelson (2000, 2002) and Greg Tyson Jr. (2006).



Falcone ended with a bang in the hammer. On his final attempt, he shattered his own school record, which he has broken multiple times this season, with a throw of 58.06 meters, earning him his second OAC title of the weekend. He also claimed the discus crown on Friday. In the shot put, Jake SmithZack Felton, and Falcone finished in 4th, 5th, and 6th place, respectively. Madison Haasz fouled on her last attempt in the hammer throw, but her fifth attempt, a throw of 51.17 meters, earned her a second-place finish and All-OAC honors. That throw reset her own school record in that event. Haasz also earned a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.77 meters.


Orr captured the title in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.48. She won the race by under three tenths of a second after clocking the fastest time in the preliminary rounds by almost three seconds. Orr also earned All-OAC honors in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 3rd place in a time of 14.97 seconds. In the women's 400 meter dash, Taylor Dillon just missed out on All-OAC accolades, finishing in fourth place with a time of 59.97 seconds. In the 100 meter dash on the women's side, Bethany Beaver finished in 3rd place with a time of 12.76 seconds, earning All-OAC status. She also finished in 5th place in the 200 meter dash. For the men, Ren Boehler and Jon Suter finished in 7th and 8th place in the 400 meter hurdles.


In the men's 800 meter run, Jacob Berryman just missed out on the OAC crown but still earned All-OAC honors, finishing in second place with a time of 1:56.42. In the women's 5000 meter run, freshman Rachel House finished in 5th place with a time of 18:34.79.


The relay squad of Dillon, Orr, Nichole Johnson, and Baylee Garrett finished in fourth place in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 4:09.55. On the men's side, Michael YoderAvery GatchellJerrod Lyon, and Berryman finished in fifth place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:24.04.


Olivia Hipp finished in a tie for sixth place in the high jump, clearing 1.51 meters.


The Heidelberg track and field teams will head to Toledo for the Toledo Invite on Friday, May 8th.
