DEFIANCE -- The Heidelberg University men's indoor track & field won the Defiance College Invitational on Saturday. The women's team finished third. The meet was highlighted by 10 wins and 13 top-3 finishers, highlighted below.
"Today was a good confidence booster for us -- with a lot of athletes getting PRs and qualifying for conference," said head coach Joe Yoder. "I'm excited to see what this team can do when they start tapering."
Track will compete at next weekend's Joe Banks Invitational, hosted by Ohio Northern.
Women 60 Meter Dash: Bethany Beaver won the event with a time of 8.06.
Men 400 Meter Dash: Heidelberg finished 1-2 in the 400, with De Churchya taking top honors. Churchya's time of 50.95 nipped teammate Kenny Beucler's time of 51.78.
Men 800 Meter Run: Jacob Berryman edged out Grace's Sam Hall at the line. Berryman clocked a 1:58.70 -- .08 seconds faster than Hall.
Men 5000 Meter Run: Austin Neura won the 5k with a time of 15:44.46. His best split, 35.976, came on the final lap.
Women 800 Meter Run: Sarah Hunter won the event with a time of 2:26.45.
Men 4x400 Meter Relay: Beucler, Berryman, Tim Faiken and Churchya won the 4x4. Their time of 3:28.11 was a full three seconds ahead of the runners-up.
Women 4x200 Meter Relay: The quartet of Kelsey Grove, McKenzie Biniker, Michaela Slone, and Bethany Beaver took home first with a race time of 1:48.22.
Men High Jump: Wes Fritz won his second meet in a row -- clearing 1.98m.
Women 4x400 Meter Relay: Michaela Slone, Allison Schwarzbek, Baylee Garrett, and Sarah Hunter won the event with a time of 4:11.42.
Women 200 Meter Dash: The Student Princes took home second and third in the event. Beaver ran a 27.15, good for second place, while McKenzie Biniker finished in third place with a time of 27.37.
Women 400 Meter Dash: Michaela Slone and Baylee Garrett finished in second and third place. Slone ran a 1:03.53 while Garrett finished with a time of 1:03.70.
Women 3000 Meter Run: Dani Blum took home second place with a time of 11:10.28.
Women 5000 Meter Run: Heidelberg finished in second and third place in the event. Amanda Elkins finished in second with a time of 19:59.28 while Courtney Hughes-Ksenich ran a 20:09.34, good for third place.
Men Pole Vault: Isaiah Johnson finished second with a height of 3.80m.
Men Triple Jump: Kevin Thompson was second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.22m.
Men Weight Throw: With a distance of 15.74m, Ben Gutzky took home third place in the weight.
