Track & Field shines over the weekend

ADA, Ohio — The Heidelberg University track and field teams enjoyed a successful weekend at the Joe Banks Invitational, held by Ohio Northern University. The men's side took home second place, finishing just 2.17 points behind Otterbein. Scoring 58 points, the women's team ended in fifth place. Both teams are back in action next weekend at the All-Ohio Championships.

While the teams were competing at Ohio Northern, Ryan Edwards and Jon Suter participated at the All-Ohio Multis, held Friday and Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan. Edwards finished in third place overall, while Suter saw a four-place jump from Friday to Saturday and finished sixth.

Top-three performances:

Sarah Hunter won the 400 meter dash, edging out her opponent by .01 seconds.

The 4x200 relay team of Dan Stoll, Jerrod Lyon, Marques Johnson, and James Ervin III ran a 1:33.23 to win the event.

Stoll and Lyon competed with Kenny Beucler and Tim Faiken in the 4x400 meter relay, running a 3:25.31 to win the event. The quartet narrowly beat out the second place team, finishing .01 seconds ahead of Ohio Dominican.

In the distance medley, the team of Faiken, Beucler, Eric Peterson, and Jacob Ferrebee finished in first with a race of 10:58.96.

Ben Gutzky took first place in the men's weight throw with a toss of 58-03.75.

Sophomore Erica Campbell took second in the 60 meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.53.

The 4x400 meter relay team composed of Hunter, Campbell, McKenzie Biniker, and Allison Schwarzbek ran a 4:11.14, good for a second place finish.

In the high jump, Olivia Hipp's leap of 5-01.25 vaulted her into second place.

Wes Fritz's jump of 6-07.5 helped him finish second in the high jump.

With a time of 22.85, Dan Stoll ended in third in the men's 200 meter dash. Stoll also finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.35.

Dylan Wiechart's race of 2:43.70 gave him a third place finish in the 1000 meter run.
