TRK: Stoll, Neura, Hayes highlight day at Tiffin Dragon Open

TIFFIN -- Competing just down the street, after snow diverted plans to travel to IPFW's Mastodon Invitational, the Heidelberg University track teams were action Friday evening at the Tiffin Dragon Open.

Dan Stoll stood out for the men with his time of 22.58 seconds in the 200m dash. The time is believed to have set a new Heidelberg School Record for indoor competition. Austin Neura also was a bright spot on the evening, as he won the men's 3,000m with a 9:00.90 time. 

For the women, freshman Arinn Hayes placed in three events, including the long jump, 200m dash and 60m dash. 

"In a meet with a lot of adversity throughout the week, our team showed up and answered the call," said head coach Joe Yoder. "We had some great PR's but still have a lot of room for improvement."

Below is a summary of top performances from the meet:

Men's 200m: The highlight of the day was Stoll's record-breaking performance in the 200m dash. His time was good for second overall, just .04 seconds off of first.

Men's 3,000m: Contesting Stoll for top highlight was Austin Neura who took home top place in the 3,000m with his 9:00.90 time.

Men's 400m: Stoll continued his speed in the 400m collecting fourth place overall with a time of 51.88 seconds.

Men's 800m: Hunter Greenman and Dylan Wiechart placed fifth and sixth in the 800m run with times of 2:06.85 and 2:07.14.

Men's High Jump: Reigning OAC Field Athlete of the Week, Wes Fritz placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.99m.

Men's Weight Throw: Ben Gutzky placed fifth with a heave of 17.57m.

Women's Long Jump: Arinn Hayes placed second in the long jump with a distance of 5.27m, while sister Ayanna Hayes was seventh with a length of 5.04m.

Women's 400m: Allison Schwarzbek placed third overall in a tight field with a time of 1:03.91.

Women's 200m: Three Student Princes placed in the top eight with Kelsey Grove (third), Arinn Hayes (fourth) and Schwarzbek (eighth). Grove clocked a 27.00, Hayes finished with a 27.20, and Schwarzbek timed a 27.82.

Women's 60m: Arinn Hayes (6th) and Grove (7th) finished neck-and-neck in the finals with times of 8.12 and 8.25 respectively.

Women's 3,000m: Amanda Elkins placed seventh overall with a time of 11:13.19.

Heidelberg will return to the track on January 25 and 26 at the Spire Midwest Open in Geneva, Ohio.
