TF: Gutzky's record highlights the day

ADA -- Ben Gutzky's school record in the weight throw was the highlight of a strong day for the Heidelberg University track and field teams at the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University. Gutzky's mark of 63-4.75 feet was more than three feet better than Gage Falcone's 59-10.5 feet in 2015. Heidelberg finished fourth on both sides of the ledger.

"This is what we have been waiting for from Ben, and he's not even close to bring done yet," said Head Coach Joe Yoder. "We had a lot of season PRs as we start peaking for OAC and NCAA events … We are excited for the championship season to start up."

In all, Heidelberg had 14 top-three finishers, including five winners on the day.

Men's Weight Throw: Gutzky sits fifth in the nation following his launch of 63-4.75 feet. He won the competition by nearly 15 feet.

Men's High Jump: Wes Fritz won the high jump, clearing 6-6 on the day.

Women's 3000 Meter Run: Amanda Elkins took top honors in the 3000, coming in with a time of 10:53.05 -- four seconds better than the runner-up.

Men's 400 Meter Dash: Dan Stoll was victorious in the 400 with a time of 50.21s.

Men's 500 Meter Dash:  Kenny Beucler was the winner in the 500 with a time of 1:07.25s.


Men's Long Jump: Fritz took home third place in the long jump. His best mark was 20-7.75 feet. He was less than a foot off the lead.

Women's Long Jump: Arinn Hayes was second in the long jump, with a best mark of 17-4.75 feet.

Women's 60 Meter Dash: Arinn Hayes was second in the 60 meter with a time of 8.07s, her best time of the season.

Men's 60 Meter Dash: Stoll placed second with a time of 7.24s in the finals of the 60 meter dash.

Women's 200 Meter Dash: Hayes also was the runner-up in the 200, clocking a time of 26.63s. Kelsey Grove was fourth with a 26.93s.

Men's 200 Meter Dash: Kenny Beucler took third in the 200, finishing in 23.53s.

Women's 500 Meter Run: With a time of 1:21.31, Allison Schwarzbek was second in the 500.
Men's 3000 Meter Run: Austin Neura was second with a tie of 8:50.24, less than a second off the pace.

Women's 4x200 Meter Relay: Grove, Schwarzbek, Ayanna Hayes and Arinn Hayes took second with a time of 1:49.20.

Up Next: The All-Ohio Championships await the Student Princes. The event, hosted by Otterbein University, will be held on Feb. 9.
