INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Seniors Wes Fritz and Ben Gutzky and junior Dan Stoll have punched their tickets to the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted in Boston, Massachusetts on March 8-9.
Just a week after claiming the OAC title, Fritz is looking to add an All-American honor to his senior season. He is entering nationals ranked fifth overall in the high jump with a seed leap of 2.07m.
Gutzky will be looking to crack the top-8 places in the weight throw to earn All-America accolades. Currently, Gutzky holds the ninth best throw in the country with 19.32m as his best effort this season.
Stoll, recovering from an injury that limited him at the OAC Championships, will hope for a big race as the junior is currently seeded 20th overall in the 400m dash. His best time this season is 48.83 seconds.
With three athletes qualifying, this is the first time Heidelberg has had multiple competitors qualify for the indoor national meet since Nate Davis and Joe Yoder both qualified in 2012. The trio of athletes is the first time three athletes have made it to the big meet since 2008 when six athletes qualified.
The 2019 National Indoor Championships are scheduled for March 8-9 at the University of Massachusetts - Boston.
