Cross Country teams open with 3rd place finishes

BLUFFTON -- The Heidelberg University men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons at the Bluffton Invitational. The men, led by Isaac Kuntz and the women, paced by Rachel House, both placed third.

After missing much of last season with an injury, House took third with a 5K time of 18:54.35. Hayley Cochran followed with a time of 19:31.50 -- good for sixth overall.

Amanda Elkins finished 14th overall, clocking a 20:11.33. Next, Elizabeth Volz crossed the line in 20:42.84, finishing 20th. Courtney Hughes-Ksenich (21:02, 29th), Nicole Tennison (21:14, 32nd) and Miranda Shaffer (21:16, 33rd) rounded out the scorers for the Student Princes.

The men's team finished in a pack, starting with Kuntz -- 19:55.69 in the 6K (16th place). Right behind him, Dom Frey (20:06.70) and Joel Studer (20:08.16) were 17th and 18th.

Behind them, Jacob Ferrebee (20:10.68) and Jesse Rudolph (20:11.34) finished 21st and 22nd.

Tim Faiken (20:24, 26th) and Eric Peterson (20:59, 35th) rounded out the top seven.

HU will host the Heidelberg Cross Country Carnival on September 9th. The race begins at 6p.m.
