BLUFFTON, Ohio -- Rachel House and Austin Neura paced the Heidelberg University cross country teams in their season-opening race at Bluffton University on Friday. Neura took home a third-place finish while his team also placed third among collegiate competition. House was fourth overall while the women finished sixth.
MEN'S RACE: Neura clocked a time of 18:43 in the 6K race, a mere three seconds off of second. With a time of 19:24, Isaac Kuntz was seventh among NCAA competition, 12th overall.
"We came out and competed well today … running against some nationally-ranked competition helped bring out some good times," said Head Coach Brian Grime. "We have a lot of underclassmen starting to push for varsity, so I think we are going to be tough moving forward."
"We have a lot more work to do, but today was a good start," said Grime.
WOMEN'S RACE: In the 5K, House finished in 18:40 -- good for fourth. Next across the line for the Student Princes was Amanda Elkins (15th, 19:59).
Miranda Shaffer (21st, 20:24), Alexandra Chakov (41th, 22:11), and Jessica Sucheck (44th, 22:37) were the final three scorers.
"We only ran a partial squad this week while we deal with a few injuries, but this team will be a lot better at the end of the year," said Grime. "I like how the student-athletes are progressing and the ones that are healthy are definitely fit. It's going to be a fun season."
NEXT UP: In conjunction with Tiffin University, the Student Princes host the Tiffleberg Open on September 16. The event will take place at Clinton Heights Golf Course.
